Knowledge on the exact elevation is crucial in many strategic and research studies on water management and water policy.

In the Netherlands the available DEM is very accurate, but especially when trying to determine the lowest elevation in certain areas problems arise. In many places the lowest elevations in the DEM are actually located within open water.

FutureWater introduces a correction on the DEM to determine the lowest elevation more accurately. This is especially needed for inundation risks studies. The method filters out the open water with the help of different datasets.
